Newark's annual South Ward Juneteenth Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, from 11am to 7pm on Bergen Street between Lyons Avenue and Nye Avenue. The event will include music, live entertainment, vendors, amusement rides and health and wellness activities. It is presented by Mayor Ras J. Baraka and South Ward Councilman Patrick O. Council with the support of various businesses and community groups.

Join NJCF, the United Way of Greater Newark, and Program for Parents on Saturday, May 18th for Bright Beginnings: A Conference to Support Newark Families for Kindergarten Success!  This conference will include:

• Free Parking: Free parking will be provided, and information about how to access parking will be sent the week ahead of the conference.

• Targeted Workshops: Breakout sessions that give parents information about kindergarten enrollment and registration, how to access english language learner (ELL) services at your new school, how to access special education services, and guidance on how new parents and families can best engage with their schools.

• Vendors & Community Organizations: Local vendors and community orgazations such as Programs for Parents, United Way, Essex County One Stop, My Brother's Keeper, Kids Place and many more will be in attendance to provide families with resources for the start of their student's education journey.

• Learning Zone: Children’s author Diana Lee Santamaria will be there to read to students, along with other adults to provide care and engaging learning experiences to children during the conference.

• Breakfast & Lunch: Coffee and snacks will be available on arrival and lunch will be provided to eat there or to grab and go toward the end of the conference
