Announcing the My Schools Newark Enrollment Fellowship!

Newark has nearly 200 schools and multiple systems for enrollment. My Schools Newark aims to help families learn about all of their options and choose the schools that best fit their needs.

We are seeking community-minded members who are interested in serving Newark families in the process of finding and enrolling in schools that work best for their children.

The My Schools Newark Enrollment Fellowship will: 

  • Train Fellows in how to get the most out of the explorer tool on the My Schools Newark website
  • Lead participants in a deep focus group to contribute to the upgrades of My Schools Newark’s website so that it is providing the valuable information that families need
  • Show Fellows how to help families apply through the two main public school enrollment systems: Newark Enrolls (all of the district schools and 1 charter) and Newark Common App (most of the charter schools)
  • Create space for like-minded community servants to discuss important Newark school topics, including crossing guard shortages, pre-k enrollment, after school options, learning to read strategies, parent advocacy, etc.

If chosen for the Newark Enrollment Fellowship, participants will receive a $1,500 stipend for their full participation over the course of three months (January 15, 2026 -March 15, 2026). Requirements include two one-hour training Zooms, and one final in-person training session on a Saturday or weeknight in mid to late January, then bi-weekly 30 minute meetings via Zoom or in person. 

Ideal candidates have some or all of these qualities:

  • Already works with students, families or schools either as a full time or part time employee or through volunteer work with an organization that works with families and children (parent liaisons, family advocates, PTO/parent organization members, intake coordinators, community engagement personnel, etc.)
  • Are tech savvy and/or are bilingual, particularly in Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole
  • Care about collecting information about parent challenges to enrollment and helping them solve those issues
  • Understand that families make choices on schools for a wide variety of reasons and as advocates and family educators, we respect, celebrate and support any of the choices they make without judgment
  • Lives or works in Newark, or both

Fellowship ends March 15, 2026. The work of My Schools Newark is funded by the New Jersey Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organization in Newark whose mission is to support student achievement at all public schools in Newark.
